To meet these challenges, JCDecaux has committed to an ambitious ESG Strategy towards 2030, which aims to strengthen its ESG responsibility and support its clients in their own transition. 

The 360 Footprint tool

To address these challenges, JCDecaux developed 360 Footprint, a calculator measuring the impacts of our advertisers’ communications campaigns.  

The tool aims to support advertisers in adopting transparent and positive advertising practices by measuring what cannot be seen. 

Where others focus solely on carbon, JCDecaux has designed a unique and comprehensive calculator, the first on the market, integrating four dimensions:  

  • Carbon footprint, expressed in CO₂ emissions (or CO2eq)
  • The water footprint, expressed in cubic meters.
  • The social footprint, calculated in terms of the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs supported locally.
  • The economic footprint, translated into value created in the national economy.
     

After a pilot in France in 2021, the tool is now enhanced and available in several markets worldwide. 

This tool has been designed to be operational across all JCDecaux environments: street furniture, transport (metro, airports, etc.) and billboards.

A robust methodology

Our calculator provides brands and agencies with robust and reliable data aligned with recognised international standards:
 

  • ISO 14040 & 14044 – standards that outline the principles and frameworks for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
  • The Product Environmental Footprint methodology provides rules for quantifying and communicating the environmental impacts of products, including goods and services. It focuses on reducing impacts throughout the entire product supply chain.
  • Ad Net Zero Global Media Sustainability Framework – a guide of voluntary industry standards addressing media greenhouse gas emissions data and calculations.
  • The reference framework for calculating the carbon footprint of digital campaigns by the Internet Advertising Bureau and Digital Alliance.
     

Finally, our methodology is audited by EY, guaranteeing the reliability and transparency of the results. 

Growing challenges and demands at an international level

Indeed, international players who already use our tool in France wish to extend its use to other geographical areas in which they operate, thereby enhancing the measurement of their impact at a global level.  

That is why, in 2025, the tool was rolled out internationally and is available in Italy, Germany and Brazil, before other regions in 2026.  

Since its launch in France, more than 50 major advertisers have integrated 360 Footprint into their processes and regularly call on our teams for campaign reviews. Adoption is growing steadily and will be boosted by the international rollout of the tool.
