On the streets of Coogee, Randwick, Chatswood and in the heart of Sydney’s parks, JCDecaux’s bus shelters were dressed in purple to put children centre stage. Fully wrapped in the charity’s colours, these pieces of street furniture became storytelling spaces, with illustrated panels, lockers and customised benches. Each bus shelter was fitted with an audio device sharing stories from sick children and their families. With a simple press of a button, commuters could hear the stories of Abigail, Zayn and many other children supported by the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. These accounts, both moving and full of hope, highlighted the strength and courage these young patients show every day.

Beyond the emotion, this initiative devised by JCDecaux was designed to be practical and accessible. By integrating a payWave donation point directly into the bus shelters, anyone could support the Sydney Sick Kids Appeal in just a few seconds, in the course of their journey. By combining children’s voices with an easy act of generosity, JCDecaux demonstrated the power of out-of-home media to engage the wider public in building a brighter future for hospitalised children in Sydney.
