A look back at a very special operation: the replacement of 1500 MUPIs, bus and tram shelters in Amsterdam.

Winter 2013. JCDecaux is preparing to replace all the bus, tram shelters and MUPIs in Amsterdam, the city with the biggest density of bus shelter per square meter.

It took 2 years of preparation, from design to conception, building, planning and installation. The new street furniture has a lower energy consumption, thanks to LEDs.
All the street furniture are built ahead of their installation. Locations and obstacles are carefully planned and mapped.

Finally, the installation operations are on. During 3 weeks, 7 days a week, several teams will remove each shelter while the new one is en route. It takes 2 hours to replace one.

Eventually, after 50.000 work hours and 6 million parts assembled, the challenge is achieved !
