Street furniture dedicated to selective sorting: JCDecaux is actively involved alongside the local authorities in campaigns to heighten public awareness about the need to sort waste into different categories. The Group has developed a whole range of street furniture designed to meet concerns about environmental protection.
The street furniture is fitted with recycling bins for batteries, glass and other waste.
Plymouth - Solar-powered bus shelters
Sustainable Development
Plymouth: JCDecaux UK supplies the world’s largest network of solar-powered bus shelters
In November 2003, the programme aimed at creating the largest network of solar-powered bus shelters passed the milestone of the 100th shelter installed in the city of Plymouth. The programme began in the summer of 2003 and was concluded at the end of 2003.
These bus shelters are located all over the city. Thanks to solar panels that store up the sun’s energy during the day, the Plymouth bus shelters further enhance the quality of this public service, which becomes one of the most environmentally friendly and cost-effective solutions currently available.
The solution developed by JCDecaux and “Solar Century”, the Group’s technical partner, enables the bus shelters to be lit up automatically as soon as night falls. Similarly, the frequently cloudy days in the UK are no problem: the system can also work with dim levels of light.
